* HEARING ALERT *
On Thursday, February 14, the Subcommittee
on Courts, the Internet, and Intellectual Property of the U.S. House of
Representatives Committee on the Judiciary held a “Hearing on Design
Law – Are Special Provisions Needed to Protect Unique Industries.”
The Consumer Federation of American and fellow advocates
for consumer rights testified before the Subcommittee, keeping prices fair
and the automotive collision parts marketplace free by adding a “repair
clause” to United States design patent law is critical to preserving
consumer choice.

QPC members and others, including the American Insurance Association, the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies and Property Casualty Insurers Association of America sent a letter
to members of the Subcommittee to show their full support for inclusion of an automotive “repair clause” in United States design patent law clarifying that the manufacturer and sale of alternative crash parts for the purpose of repairing an automobile is not considered an act of infringement.
RetireSafe distributed a letter to the Subcommittee urging members, on behalf of the seniors they serve, as well as older Americans everywhere, to ensure the widest possible access to high-quality, low-cost replacement collision parts by supporting an automotive repair clause.
A number of allies utilized the hearing as an opportunity to spread the word about the importance of an automotive repair clause to the media.
